INSPIRATION

Books

  • Tending The Heart Fire - Shiva Rea

A book for life, this river guide was written by my teacher, friend and sister, and is rich with wisdom and knowledge for everyone, not just yoga practitioners. The pages flow with a lifetime of embodied movement mediation practices, rituals, mantra, yantra, tantra, Ayurveda, somatic and kinesthetic intelligence, the microcosm in the macrocosm. It is my reference book to ‘Living Yoga’ on and off the mat.

  • The Radiance Sutras - Lorin Roche

A transformative, poetic and easily digestible translation of the sacred Shakti text, Vignana Bhairava Tantra. This is my reference book for self-study to explore and devour the ecstatic depths of yoga, divinity and the alchemy of the sacredness, as narrated by Shiva and Shakti and translated by Roche

  • Awakening Shakti - Sally Kempton

A must-read for any Shakti devotee, this book brings heart, wisdom and reality to the modern-day Shakti; tracing the essences and characteristics of each Shakti goddess, beautifully narrated from an embodied current. Durga is one of my archetypes. Within every possible aspect, her energy runs through my veins, but I also recognise her shadow traits in my character. With which goddess(es) do you resonate?

  • The Mahabharta – Krishna Dharma

A beautiful narration of the epic dynasty, first written by Ganesha using his broken tusk as narrated by Vyasa. This version captures the essence and unfolding of Krishna’s poem sung to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, the Bhagavad Gita. Draupadi, Krishna’s beloved friend and the wife of the Pandavas, is Shakti and another of my archetypes. The warfare resonates with my lineage as belonging to the Kshatriya (Warrior) clan in my ancestry. This is my reference book to dharma, equality, balance, compromise, love, friendship, selfless service, bhakti and duty.

  • The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse – Charlie Mackesy

A work of art translated into the most important life lessons, as told by four unlikely friends in a simplistic narration that pierces the heart. This charming, humble, authentic and heartfelt book is my reference for self-comfort and nourishment, a ‘go to’ when I’m feeling uncertain, anxious or fearful.

  • The Midnight Library – Matt Haig

The beauty of life explained. There is nothing wrong with this moment. The alternative may seem and look better, but it’s in this present moment that a shift in perspective helps to create possibilities and opportunities.
